unionbr@carr.org FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK Thelma Baltzell donated red, white and blue ribbons to celebrate Memorial Day, Donald Wilson and I hung the ribbons along Main Street. It is amazing how something as small as a ribbon can enhance our streets. In July we will start with a new trash hauler; please give them some time to become accustom to our town. We will be getting new recycle containers from the hauler, please make use of them and recycle as much as possible. Sumer is here and school is out; remember there will be a lot of children on our streets so please drive carefully. Have a great summer. Perry L. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Mayor again. Congratulations to Donald Wilson and Edgar Wentz on their re-election. We have a wonderful group of people on our council. I have asked the council to write a goals list, --projects that each member would like to accomplish. In doing this I believe it will be helpful not only to the council, but also to the town. We need the help of our residents to let us know what the town needs. But keep in mind, with this economy we need to choose needs and not wants. Together we can continue to make this the town we all love.
CDBG West Broadway Reconstruction -
The town has applied to CDBG for a street improvement project for West Broadway, similar to the successful projects that the town completed for Benedum and Farquhar Streets. If residents have any questions or comments on the town’s application, please call the Town Office .
The town was awarded a $30,000 grant from the State Highway Administration to extend the trail located at the Wetlands Park adjacent to Route 75. We are still awaiting permit approval from the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Construction is planned to start this summer
The town has sent an application to MDE to refinance our existing water quality loan to a lower interest rate.
Union Bridge plans to use this year’s POS funds to extend the existing Wetlands Park Trail. The existing trail is located adjacent to Route 75. Parking for the trail entrance is located next to the car wash.
West Carroll serves Union Bridge, New Windsor, and surrounding areas. Anyone interested in Rec. Council programs or events is welcome to attend our meetings. Meetings will be held the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Old New Windsor School/County Government Offices/Library Administration Offices in New Windsor. Next meeting dates: July 11, August 8 and September 12.

West Carroll Soccer Club will be holding a silent auction fundraiser event on September 3, 2011. West Carroll Soccer Club provides a safe and enjoyable environment for youth ages 4-14 to learn and play the game of soccer. Not only do we teach these youths the game, but also emphase sportsmanship, leadership, values, and community service. We have decided to take our club to a new level and add a “special needs” division. This division will be open to youth ages 4-17 with disabilities. We will be the first recreational club in Carroll County, to offer this unique division to these deserving youths! All of the funds raised from this event will be used to support West Carroll Soccer’s vision of the ”special needs” program.
