FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK

Summer is here and street repairs continue.  We are still waiting for State Highway to make a permanent repair on a few very bad areas on Main St.  Main Street is Route 75 and is the responsibility of the State. the town cannot make repairs on the State roads.  Our Town streets are enough to maintain.  Donald Wilson does a great job keeping up with street repairs.  Street complaints should be addressed to Donald Wilson.  Donald will look at the area to see what needs to be done and when it is to be repaired.   Please be patient, not everything can be done overnight.
There is a very serious parking problem on East Thomas Street.  The town will hold a meeting at the Community Center.  The town encourages everyone who lives on E. Thomas to attend this meeting.  At this time some residents could be causing a delayed response of emergency equipment.  We must all work together to resolve this issue.  Many of you may not remember when Main Street had parking on both sides of the street.  We had to remove parking on one side of the street and everyone adjusted and lived through it.  Let's work together.
The walking trail now has a loop that conects.  This trail is funded by Community Parks and Playgrounds and Program Open Space grant funds.
In the weeks to come a new sign will be going up at the Community Center.  The old sign has been in very bad condition for several years.
The town also has a new town flag.  If anyone would like to purchase one to fly at home, please stop by the town office, where one can be ordered for you.  The flag was carried in the Fireman's parade by Councilwoman Amy Kalin's daughter's.  I would like to thank Hunter and Harley for carrying the flag for us.
The Union Bridge Business Association still meeting the third Tuesday at 7:30 a..m. every month at the Town Hall.   We are usually out of the meeting by 9:00 a.m.  There has been some By-Law changes.  Hope you will come and check out the new Union Bridge Business Association.
The new Zoning Administrator is Chad Green.  We also have two new Planning Commission members: Joshua Fuss and Ed Williar.  The new town maintenance employee is Ken Black.  If you would like to serve on a board or commission,  please let me on the town office know.

Perry L. Jones, Jr., Mayor

PET OWNERS
The town is getting calls about residents not picking up after their pets.  Please consider those who come after you on your walk.  Put yourself in their shoes - literally.  Please be a good neighbor and pick up your animal droppings.  Union Bridge Code, Chapter 10, The owner of every animal shall be responsible for the removal of any excreta deposited by his animal(s) on public property, including sidewalks, recreation areas or on private property.

WATER CONSERVATION TIPS
1. Check faucets and pipes for leaks. A small drip from a worn faucet washer can waste 20 gallons of water per day. Larger leaks can waste hundreds of gallons.
2. Check your toilets for leaks. Put a little food coloring in your toilet tank. If, without flushing, the color begins to appear in the bowl within 30 minutes, you have a leak that should be repaired immediately.
3. Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow (uses less than 2.5 gallons per minute) faucet aerators.
4.Take shorter showers.
5. Don't let the water run while brushing your teeth.
6. Never pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it. Use it to water your indoor plants or garden.
7. Collect rain water to reuse in the garden whenever possible.
If anyone notices anyone stealing water from hydrants or any unauthorized appropriation of water, please call the Town Hall at 401-775-2711.
