IN THE TOWN OFFICE June 15, 2013
Vandalism has occurred again at the ball fields and town office parking lot. When this happens it costs the Union Bridge tax payers money. The spray paint must be cleaned off or be painted over. You would not like your children or your mother to have to see the graffiti every day. Posts that are planted around light poles for safety were pulled out of the ground before the cement dried. Every dog has its day. Sooner or later we will catch those who are responsible for this.
I am still working with Silver Oak Academy on pole decorations. It is taking longer than I like, but it will be very nice.
A letter by a local business was sent to the Sheriff’s Department and Lehigh about speeding trucks in town limits. The Sheriff’s Department has been working very hard trying to curtail the problem. Some town residents have been stopped. Remember that Main Street is a State Highway, and truckers pay high taxes to use these highways. Lehigh is working very hard to come up with a plan.
Skateboarders and scooters are still a problem, not just here, but all towns are having the same issues. If anyone has any thoughts on how to help with this problem, please come to a council meeting.
CDBG West Broadway -
The Mayor and Council of Union Bridge are pleased to announce that The Town of Union Bridge was awarded a $230,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This street improvement project will include new water lines, sewer lines, storm drains, sidewalks, curbing, and street resurfacing for West Broadway extending from Whyte and Farquhar Streets. The Town hired Stambaugh’s Inc. to complete the street reconstruction. Construction on this project is planned to close by May.
The town was also awarded a $138,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for phase two to the West Broadway Street project. This project will include similar construction to the current phase. Phase two will include work from Whyte Street to the dead-end.
