I am sure everyone has noticed the increase in your water bill, which started on July 1, 2012. Yes, the state’s bay fee went from $30.00 to $60.00 a year. This fee is out of the town’s control.
Please, pay attention to the newspaper for information on new bills that the State and Federal Government regulations are pushing for.
Winter is coming. Make sure you put new batteries in your smoke detectors and flash lights and make sure heaters of all kinds are clean and are working properly. Doing this kind of yearly maintenance could SAVE YOUR LIFE. Be aware that there is NO PARKING allowed on Main Street at night during snow storms. This is a snow emergency route and the snow plows must be able to keep this roadway clear of snow.
There will be some street maintenance taking place in the next month. Please be patient as the work is in progress. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Council Member Donald Wilson at 410-775-2907. I would like to say that our council members do a great job with what little funds Union Bridge has to work with.
The Little Pipe Creek Walking Trail has had approximately 1200 feet added to it. The extra footage was paid in full by federal grants that were designated for parks and walking trails. We plan to apply for the next round of funding, in hopes of completing the trail. It is a great trail to take a walk and enjoy nature. There are plans to place some benches along the trail. If you have any questions or suggestions concerning the trail please call Council Member Donald Wilson.
CDBG West Broadway -
The Mayor and Council of Union Bridge are pleased to announce that The Town of Union Bridge was awarded a $230,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This street improvement project will include new water lines, sewer lines, storm drains, sidewalks and curbing, and street resurfacing for West Broadway extending from Whyte Street to Warehime Alley, similar to the successful projects that the town completed for Benedum and Farquhar Streets. The Town hired Stambaugh’s Inc. to complete the street reconstruction. Work on the street has begun and is expected to be completed this year.
The Town of Union Bridge submitted an application to the Maryland Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for phase two of the West Broadway Street Reconstruction project. This application includes street improvements to West Broadway from Whyte Street to the dead-end. Proposed construction includes new water lines, sewer lines storm drains, sidewalks, curbing and street resurfacing similar to our phase one West Broadway reconstruction project.
The town was awarded a $30,000 grant from the State Highway Administrationand a $36,000 grant from Maryland’s Program Open Space to extend the Wetlands Park trail approximately 1,300 linear feet. The trail is located at the Little Pipe Creek Wetlands Park, adjacent to Route 75. Construction has been completed on the trail. We look forward to town residents enjoying the new path.
