IN THE TOWN OFFICE December 15, 2014
It is that time of year again to gather leaves. The town needs another place to take leaves. If you know of anyone that uses them for gardens or bedding, please contact the town office. Please do not blow leaves into the street, as they will wash down the storm drains and cause the drains to clog.
The town would like to thank residents on Main St. that move their cars during street sweeping. I would like to ask those residents who do not move their vehicles to please make every effort to move them when Main St. is scheduled to be swept.
With winter coming, remember that Main St. is Rt. 75 and is a state highway. SHA has signs posted that stating it is a Snow Emergency Route and that means NO PARKING when the Snow Emergency Plan is in effect. Keeping vehicles off this roadway makes it easier for the State to plow the roadway, and the plows can push the snow back further. Remember when you remove snow from your sidewalks do not throw the snow back into the streets. If you live on Main St. please shovel a path where the parking meters are so when people park they have a path to get onto the sidewalk.
Wetlands Park Trail Extension
The Town of Union Bridge completed grant applications to the State for the planned final phase of the trail system in the town’s Wetlands Park located off of Rt. 75. Once complete, the trial will “loop” around the park for a distance of approximately one mile.
Union Bridge is in the process of completing a grant application for the purchase and installation of an emergency backup generator to the Town's Water Treatment Facility.

Resolution 02-2014 was adopted on August 21, 2014 by the Planning and Zoning Commission of Union Bridge has decided to amend the 2008 Union Bridge & Environs Community Comprehensive Plan by the addition of a Growth Tier Map as Required by State Law.
Resolution 03-14 was approved on August 25, 2014. This resolution approves the Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to amend the 2008 Union Bridge & Environs Community Comprehensive Plan by the addition of a Growth Tier Map as required by State Law.
1. On average, toilets are responsible for 25% of your indoor water use. Installing a high-efficiency certified toilet can create significant water savings.
2. Taking shorter showers can help reduce your household's overall water usage. Consider switching to a low-flow showerhead to save on water. Five minutes in the shower equates to 50 gallons of water down the drain.
3. Run the dishwasher and washing machine when each is at full capacity to save on unnecessary water usage. Doing so can save up to 1,000 gallons of water a month.
4. When buying new appliances, consider those that offer cycle and load size adjustments. These are more water and energy efficient.
5. Replace and retrofit old faucets with high efficiency ones.
6. Listen for dripping and running toilets. Fixing a leak can save 300 gallons or more a month.
7. Don't leave the water running when brushing your teeth, shaving or washing dishes.
8. Use leftover water from cooking pasta or vegetables to water indoor plants.
9. Run your garbage disposal sparingly. Compost vegetable food waste instead and save gallons of water each time.
RESIDENTS: If your sewer line becomes blocked please contact the Town
Hall at 410-775-2711 before calling a plumber.

Remember, that the winter months will soon be upon us, be sure to drain all outdoor water hoses and temporary water lines. Check all outdoor faucets to make sure they are turned off and are not leaking.
Owners or occupants of premises fronting on any street with paved sidewalks shall remove any snow or ice from the traveled portions of the sidewalk, to a width of at least 30", within 24 hours after snow or ice ceases to fall.
1. Sand or kitty litter may be used for traction.
2. Snow removal equipment should have a rubber
edged blade.
3. We do not recommend the use of salt or snow melting product containing sodium chloride. In the event
that these products must
be used wash any residue from the concrete
surface.
4. Avoid the use of ice picks
or anything that may chip
or damage the concrete
surface.

THEY CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOUR HELP!!!
The Town of Union Bridge is requesting that all residents of Union Bridge make an effort to recycle everything they possibly can. The cost for trash that is picked up in town is a combination of the cost for the pick-up of the trash plus the tipping fee at the landfill. When you recycle, the town pays only for the pick-up service; there is no tipping fee associated with recyclables. Therefore, the more we recycle, the less it costs the town. There is information at the Town Hall and County Office Building explaining what you can put in your recycle bins. Everything that is recyclable can be put into the same container, as Carroll County is doing single-stream recycling.
*IT’S STATE LAW.
*IT’S ENVIRONMENTALLY SMART.
*IT SAVES THE TOWN MONEY (YOUR TAXES).
*THE MORE YOU RECYCLE THE LESS TRASH YOU PUT INTO LANDFILLS.
