FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK
It seems we are once again facing cuts from the state and must further tighten our belt. These cuts will most likely be in Highway User Funds and will affect street maintenance, but cuts in other areas remain a possibility. Unfortunately for the Town, there isn't any "fat" in our budget, so cuts in revenue will mean cuts in service. There are no intentions of any reductions in service at this point in any department except streets, but if the present economic conditions persist, who can say what may happen in the future. We have and will continue to do the best job possible with the budget situation that is, at best, difficult.

Bret D. Grossnickle, Mayor

UNION BRIDGE RESIDENT DEPUTY
Greetings Union Bridge: Summer has come and gone; I hope everyone enjoyed their summer as much as I did. It was great to see so many of you come out for "National Night Out." It can't be said enough: a strong community is a safe community. Again I have been impressed with the number of residents who truly care about Union Bridge. With the start of the school year we will again need to be mindful of the children walking to school and waiting for the school bus. Drivers, pay attention when around school buses; the State of Maryland takes passing school buses when the red lights are flashing and the stop sign displayed very seriously. To those students who drive, please be careful and watch your speed - I can't say that strongly enough.
Ouote for this issue: "I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have." Thomas Jefferson

Grant Project Update
Community Park Trail System and Storage Building -
The Town of Union Bridge has completed its Community Park Trail System.  The trail starts adjacent the Shriner Court complex, and meanders around the back of the baseball diamonds, wraps around the street, and ends at the bottom of the stairs at the Community Center.  The trail also provides fitness stations for users to exercise and stretch.

Farquhar Street Sidewalk Improvements -
The town received a $195,300 grant from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) toward the sidewalk improvements.  The Town has approved MK Concrete to complete the improvements.  Union Bridge hopes to have construction completed by October.

For questions on these or any other projects, please call the Town Office at 410-775-2711.
