FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK

Once again summer is a great time of year.  Families spend a lot of time in their back yards and swimming pools, but it is also the time of year when people get a close look at their neighbors'  yards.  You see lawns not mowed, vehicles with no tags and then the town becomes swamped with complaints.  When complaints come in we must go out and verify the complaint and then send out letters concerning the violation.  This is a long process for the Clerk.  Her time spent out of the office verifying complaint, sending out certified letters, then out again to see if violation has been corrected is costly.  This is your tax dollar.  And don't forget that if you don't correct the violation,  the courts get involved and that means the town's attorney is involved.  This all takes time and money.  We don't go looking for violations.  Complaints mostly come from your neighbors.  Once the letters are sent out, tattlers come out.  Most violations letters are complaint driven, and is not a fun time in the town office.
The computer  lab at the Community Center has been great for people that do not have computers at home.  You can use them to apply for jobs and children can do their homework.  However misuse of the building may end it all.
Watch for a new business coming to town.  Terry's Tag and Title will be located at 52 N. Main Street.  They are talking about having evening hours.  What a blessing not having to go to the DMV.
Save the date: October 8, 2015.  The town will be hosting a Drug Awareness Expo at the Fire Company Hall, from 4 :00 to 8:00 p.m.  Law Enforcement, State's Attorney Office, Health Department and lots of speakers will be there.  Come out and find out what may be in your home that you are not aware of.  These Expo's have been an eye opener all over the state, and county.  Please come out and share the evening with some great people.

Perry L. Jones, Jr., Mayor
